270 XT Awning

(14 customer reviews)

$1,980.00 rrp

The 270 XT Awning sets new benchmarks  for a free standing shade awning in terms of overall strength, wind resistance and durability.  The awning is 2.3m in length, weighs only 27.8Kg and can be easily fixed to a roof rack or to our Clamshell Roof Top Tents .  The 270 XT Awning provides an incredible amount of shade around your 4WD for you to set up your camp kitchen, swags or just a shaded seating/chill out area. As you can see from the video the awning can easily be set up by one person in about 30 seconds and the pack down is just as simple.

The 270 XT Awning is made in South Africa from quality components.  The awning bag is  460 gram poly cotton rip-stop canvas with YKK Zippers.  In contrast to PVC covers, the canvas allows the awning to breath while keeping it dust/dirt free and moisture is able to wick out through the zipper reducing the risk of mold or mildew.  The rip-stop material on the bag also reduces the risk of large running tears in the bag as a result of contact with tree branches.  The canvas on the awning itself is a 380 gram poly cotton rip-stop canvas that is mold and mildew resistant, The canvas is The Bush Company’s traditional olive green colour, and it is pre-treated during manufacture for water resistance, but over time if the stitched areas show signs of water ingress this is easily treated with a canvas aqua proof product to seal the stitch holes.

The structure of the awning is made from an extruded alloy composite which has been specifically designed to provide the elasticity, strength and durability we required.  The main bracket for the hinge is constructed from 316 marine grade stainless steel providing huge strength.  The arms on the awning have been gusseted for additional strength, which enables the awning to be fully standing without any poles in even the very strong wind conditions.  We do not supply poles for the awning as it does not need them, but we do supply guy ropes and pegs for use in extreme wind conditions to prevent damage to your roof rack or vehicle.  The guy ropes attach to the stainless steel D-rings that are incorporated into the ends of the arms and also midway along each canvas section.  In conjunction with the natural rake of the awning, the guy ropes should be used to prevent pooling of water on the canvas and to guide water runoff in preferred places. We do not recommend leaving the awning up unattended during snowfall due to risk of canvas stretching as a result of excessive weight.

Around the inside edge of the awning is a 50mm thick velcro strip which can be used to attach the optional awning walls enabling you to fully enclose the area to provide protection from the elements or additional privacy.

The awning is available in either a Left Hand Side (passenger side in Australia)  or Right Hand Side (driver’s side in Australia) configuration, please select which version you require from the drop down menu below.

  6. Lachie

Looks like a great product. Do you make side walls for it too? That would really help with wind driven rain.

    • The Bush Company

Hi Lachie, the wall kit for the XT come as a set of 4 walls and each wall has a door with twin zips so that it can be rolled up to the top. The walls taper away from the awning provide a little more space at ground level, this also helps to accommodate variations in vehicle height. The walls attach to the valance on the edge of the awning with a 50mm Velcro strip and they attach to each other using heavy duty Velcro.

The retail price on the wall kit is $1,150 and will be available from early January 2021.

  10. Tammy

What is the wind rating before needing to tie it down?

    • The Bush Company

Hi Tammy, we have had our demo 270 XT Awning out in over 50Km/h winds without any guys ropes and no issues. The main concern is whether waht the awning is attached to and the brackets used for mounting can withstand the forces involved.

  11. Scott Blanch

Would these fit on a dual cab ute with canopy?

    • The Bush Company

Hi Scott, yes, we have many customer who have fitted the 270XT Awning to a dual cab with a canopy. If you do not want to mount the awning directly to the canopy we suggest using either a roof rack or load bars, which will also help to prevent the awning fouling on the canopy doors.

  12. Adam Begaud

I have an alucab RTT is there any issue with mounting one of your 270 xt awnings to the Alucab
    RTT

Hi Adam, you will need to use the awning bracket from Alucab but this can be re-drilled to work with our awnings.

  14. Dylon Kremers

Hi, what’s the minimum requirement for mounting length on a canopy? Does it have to be mounted at either end? Or would 1200 be acceptable?
