270 XT Awning Mk2

$2,550.00

Freestanding 270° 4WD Awning | 8m² / 86 sq ft | Setup in 30

One pivot. One movement. 30 seconds. The 270 XT Awning Mk2 swings out 8m² (86 sq ft) of freestanding shade faster than anything else in the range — no poles, no fuss, one person. Pull up at the beach, get the awning out, get the line wet.

The single-pivot design is what makes it quick, and what makes it an easy fit. At 27.8kg (61.3 lb) with a 1.4m (4'7") minimum bracket spacing, it is ideal for dual-cabs and shorter racks that can't fit larger awnings. The B-Tech™ Alloy gusseted frame, stainless steel hinges, 315gsm (9.3oz) single-seam ripstop canvas are standout features.

Left or right hand fitment.

2-year conditional warranty.

270 XT Awning Mk2 — the fastest, most fittable 270 in the range

Thirty seconds. That's the number that matters here.

The 270 XT Awning Mk2 runs a single pivot point, so deploying it is one continuous movement rather than a sequence. Unzip the bag, swing the arm, done — 8m² (86 sq ft) of freestanding 270° shade wrapped around the side and rear of your rig, by yourself, in half the time the twin-hinge MAX takes.

Simplicity is the feature. Fewer moving parts, less to line up in the dark, less to think about at the end of a long day on the tracks.

Which 270 is right for your rig

Worth settling before you spend, because the answer isn't always "the bigger one."

The 270 XT Mk2 only 1.4m (4'7") between mounting points and ships with two brackets. That means it goes on short dual-cab racks, canopy racks and load bars that physically cannot take the 270 XT MAX's 1.9m (6'3") span. At 27.8kg (61.3 lb) it's also 5.7kg (12.6 lb) lighter that the 270 XT MAX, which matters when your dynamic roof load is already carrying a rooftop tent.

The 270 XT MAX Mk2 adds a second hinge and a forward-folding front section for 12m² (129 sq ft) and deeper coverage around the rear of the vehicle. More shade, more weight, more rack required.

If you're a solo or duo tourer, or you're running a shorter rack, the XT is the smarter buy — not the compromise. If you're feeding a family out of a rear kitchen and have the rack and the payload, step up to the 270 XT MAX.

Freestanding, and it stays that way

No poles under it. No uprights to sink into wet sand, trip over at 2am, or rattle loose on corrugations.

The gusseted B-Tech™ Alloy arms carry their own load. Gusseting adds torsional stiffness at the joints, so the frame holds its geometry and the canvas stays tensioned without ground support. Owners have run this awning through 50km/h (31 mph) gusts on the Holland Track and reported no movement. Peg the rear non-trussed arm with the supplied guy ropes and pegs and it stays put.

Packing away is the same movement in reverse, into an oversized heavy-duty PVC bag that repacks cleanly even when the canvas is wet or dusty.

One seam. Fewer leaks.

Every stitched line across a canopy is a place water can find. Most awnings have several.

The 270 XT Mk2 uses 315gsm (9.3oz) ripstop polycotton canvas cut from an ultra-wide roll, so the whole canopy is built with a single seam. It's pre-treated for UV stability and mould and mildew resistance, and has a 1500mm waterhead rating, with triple-stitched sleeves and reinforced attachment points at every load-bearing corner.

Wet it down before your first trip. The poly-cotton core spun thread swells and seals the stitch holes — five minutes of work that sets the canvas up for years of four-season touring.

Two brackets, 1.4m, done

The 270 XT Mk2 ships with two heavy-duty adjustable L-brackets. One mounts to the stainless steel headstock at the hinged end; the second sits no closer than 1.4m (4'7") from it. Add a third (not supplied) in the centre if you want extra support across a long rack, but two is all the awning requires.

Packed, it's 2.3m (7'7") long, sitting inside a standard roof line without overhang.

Those adjustable stainless brackets are included, not an upcharge. Most awnings on the market leave you buying decent brackets separately — factor that in when you're comparing prices.

Running a Bush Company rooftop tent? The optional Awning To Tent bracketmounts the awning straight to the tent for a low, tidy touring profile.

Add walls when the weather turns

A 50mm (2") triple-stitched Velcro strip runs the inner edge for canvas and mesh wall kits.

Run a single canvas or mesh walls as a windbreak on the exposed side, or close it in completely with a full wall kit and turn 8m² (86 sq ft) into a private room with a view. Buy the awning once, shape it to the trip.

Care & Maintenance

Using & Caring For Your Awning

Before Use:

We recommend that new awnings are thoroughly wet down before first use. This will ensure that your awning performs well in wet weather by allowing the poly/cotton core spun thread and canvas to swell ensuring the takeup of any potential leaks in the stitching.

Deploying & Packing Away:

  • When unzipping the awning, make sure the zippers are right to the top of the bag at each end and that the bottom corners of the bag are not caught on the awning frame.
  • When deploying your awning if the canvas seems excessively tight, STOP and check that the canvas is not caught on the hinge mechanism and that it has not slid too far one way in the sail-track on the awning frame.
  • When packing the awning away, ensure that the canvas is not pinched between the awning arms especially close to the hinge mechanism.

Cleaning Canvas & PVC Bag:

  • To clean canvas use a soft brush and cold water.
  • Do not expose to petrol, oils or harsh chemicals.
  • The PVC bag van be cleaned with standard car wash cleaning solution.

Cleaning mould:

Your awning canvas is pre-treated with mould and mildew resistance, but if mould/mildew does occur please follow these steps:

  • Allow mould to dry.
  • Remove surface mould with stiff bristle brush.
  • Vacuum the area.
  • Treat area with Oil of Clove spray (diluted spray can be purchased or can be mixed using a few drops of oil into a spray bottle of water).

Regular Maintenance & Checks:

Like any accessory used in extreme conditions regular maintenance is required to ensure the longevity of your awning, including:

  • Inspect awning hinges to identify any bolts that may need re-tightening.
  • Ensure that awning canvas is correctly located in the sail-rack on the backing frame to eliminate excessive tension on the canvas.
  • Inspect the attachment of the canvas to the ends of the awning arms.
  • Inspect canvas to identify any wear marks caused by incorrect packing of the canvas.

FAQS

What are the dimensions?

When packed away, the awning dimensions are approximately 2300mm L x 180mm wide. When open the awning is 8m².

See dimension diagrams here:

Is the 270 XT Awning Mk2 freestanding?

es. Once mounted to your vehicle, no poles or ground supports are needed. Guy ropes and pegs are included and should be used to secure the rear non-trussed arm in all conditions.

How much shade does it give?

8m² (86 sq ft) of 270° wraparound coverage across the side and rear of your vehicle.

How heavy is the awning?

27.8kg (61.3 lb), before brackets. It's the lightest 270-degree awning in the Bush Company range.

How long does it take to set up?

Under 30 seconds, one person. The single pivot arm means deployment is one continuous movement.

Can I add walls?

Yes. A 50mm (2") triple-stitched Velcro strip runs the inner edge for canvas and mesh wall kits — run one wall as a windbreak or enclose the space completely.

What's the difference between the 270 XT Mk2 and the 270 XT MAX Mk2?

The XT has a single pivot, 8m² (86 sq ft) of coverage, weighs 27.8kg (61.3 lb), sets up in under 30 seconds and fits racks from 1.4m (4'7"). The MAX has two hinge points and a forward-folding front section for 12m² (129 sq ft), weighs 33.5kg (73.9 lb) and needs 1.9m (6'3") of rack. Choose the XT for speed of set-up/pack down and lighter payload; the MAX for maximum coverage around the vehicle.

Does this awning need poles?

No. Poles are only recommended when running the optional awning wall kits, and those poles come with the wall kit.

Left hand or right hand fitment — which do I need?

Choose the side you want the awning to deploy from. Most tourers fit it to the side their camp kitchen or canopy door opens onto. On a right hand drive vehicle (like Australia), the Left Hand awning mounts to the passenger side.

What's the warranty?

2 years conditional.

Can I install it myself?

Yes. At 27.8kg (61.3 lb) you'll want a second set of hands for lifting and bolting. Fitting instructions are in our Guides & Instructions section, or any Bush Company stockist can fit it for you.

Are brackets included?

Yes — two heavy-duty adjustable stainless L-brackets ship with the awning.

What roof rack do I need?

Any rack or load bars giving at least 1.4m (4'7") between mounting points. Two adjustable L-brackets are included — one on the stainless headstock at the hinged end, the second no closer than 1.4m from it.

How do I install it? (video)

The Bush Company or one of our stockists can install your awning, but if you choose to install the awning yourself please make sure that you have done the due diligence to ensure that it does not create any safety issues. 270 XT Awning Mk2
